6-Month Whole Food Plant-Forward Program

Food that heals you
without asking you to
forget where you come from.

A six-month nutrition program rooted in African American culinary tradition, backed by science, and designed for real, busy lives.

“Soul food is not the enemy. It is the canvas. This program is here to paint a new vision of vibrant health on it — with you, not despite you.” — Jasmine Burroughs, MS, RD, LDN  ·  Food That Fits You

You have been told what not to eat long enough.

You have sat across from providers who handed you a list of restrictions and sent you home. You have tried programs that asked you to give up the foods your grandmother made — the dishes that mean family, love, and celebration.

That is not nutrition. That is harm.

The Food That Fits You 6-Month Program is built on a different belief: your culture is not an obstacle to your health. It is a foundation to build on.

We start where you are. We add — color, flavor, intention — month by month, with the science to back every bite and the cultural respect you have always deserved.

Six health goals. Six months. One program.

Every recommendation is evidence-based and chosen for the health concerns most common in our community.

Blood Pressure

Potassium-rich, sodium-smart eating shown to reduce systolic BP by 8–14 mmHg in clinical trials.

Blood Sugar

High-fiber, low-glycemic plant foods are the most powerful dietary tool for blood sugar and diabetes prevention.

Cholesterol & Heart Health

Soluble fiber, plant sterols, and anti-inflammatory foods directly lower LDL without medication.

Hormonal Balance

Anti-inflammatory, fiber-rich eating supports estrogen clearance, PCOS, perimenopause, and thyroid health.

Kidney Health

Plant protein produces less waste for kidneys to filter — gentler every single meal.

Weight & Energy

Not restriction. Abundance of the right foods — naturally reducing calorie density while increasing satiety.

What you will work through

Each month has a focused theme, new recipes, a shopping guide, and health education — so knowledge builds gradually, not all at once.

Month One

Foundations — Building Your Base

Gentle transitions: more water, more color, more leafy greens. You learn to build the Food That Fits You plate and stock a spice cabinet that makes salt unnecessary. Health focus: blood pressure and hydration.

Month Two

Blood Sugar Balance — Steady Energy All Day

Build meals that prevent energy crashes, reduce cravings, and protect insulin sensitivity. Featuring okra, chickpeas, cinnamon, and the vegetable-first method.

Month Three

Heart Health — Love Your Heart Like It Loves You

Walnuts, flaxseed, oats, dark leafy greens, and berries — the most powerful heart-protective foods on earth. Portfolio diet strategies that rival statins in LDL reduction.

Month Four

Hormonal Harmony — Nourishing Your Inner Chemistry

Cruciferous vegetables, ground flaxseed, fermented foods, and anti-inflammatory spices that directly support hormonal balance, especially for women.

Month Five

Kidney Care — Protecting Your Filters

The most underestimated health priority in our community. Plant protein, hydration strategy, and kidney-protective foods like cabbage, blueberries, and cauliflower.

Month Six

Integration & Celebration — Your Lifestyle, Your Legacy

This month weaves everything into a sustainable lifestyle — and celebrates where you started.

Your guide

Built with love, science, and deep respect for where we come from.

I am Jasmine Burroughs, a registered dietitian nutritionist practicing in Durham, NC, and the owner of Food That Fits You.

I built this program because I was tired of watching my clients leave appointments feeling like they have to abandon the food that raised them. The collards. The black-eyed peas. The Sunday dinners. Those are not the problem. In many ways, they are already the solution — we just need the tools to prepare them with intention.

This is whole-person, whole-culture nutrition. And you deserve every bit of it.
